Update these 5 Bedroom Items

Believe it or not, you spend a third of your day in your bedroom. This space should be comfortable and appealing since it is where you retire for the evening and also start your day every morning. Whether it’s a bedroom in your house, a rental property, or a flip, here are 5 things to update in bedrooms to add the most value to your home.
Paint
Introducing some new color into any space is always a great idea. Keep in mind that other than just painting the walls, many other things can be painted as well. If the ceiling is dirty or hasn’t been painted in a long time, a new coat of ceiling paint will make a big difference. If the door and window trim is dark natural wood color, stripping the finish to a more natural color can make the wood look alot more modern. If that’s not an option, painting trim white will also modernize the space. Closets with built-in shelves can be painted as well. If you can easily remove the shelves and clothing racks to paint or update them, this will make the process less messy. The bedroom door can also be sanded and repainted. Most doors pop off with just three hinges so it’s recommended to bring it outside to reduce drips and overruns. Painting most bedrooms should run under $150 and not take more than a few hours.
Replace Ceiling Fan
An old ceiling fan will kill the vibe in any bedroom especially because you’ll most likely be staring at it while you’re laying down. A decent fan will cost less than $300 and make a room look a lot more modern. The install isn’t too time consuming and an experienced DIY’er can swap one out in as little as one hour. Getting one with a remote control and built in light will add a lot of functionality as well.
Replace Closet Door
Older closet doors tend to be heavy and ugly. Some consist of dated wood paneling or full mirrors that appear to be straight out of the 80’s. Replacing the door is a must if it’s falling off the track, has cracks in it, and no longer closes correctly. Most closet doors are a simple DIY installation with minimal tools. New closet door will run you less than $500.
Change The Flooring
If the carpet is dirty, sometimes it’s better to just rip it out and replace it. The effort spent trying to get it clean may be more than what it’s worth especially if it’s worn down from traffic. If you get lucky, there might be some quality oak hardwood floors under the carpet. A sanding and coat of polyurethane will make these old floors look brand new. If carpet and original hardwood aren’t an option, a laminate or LVP could be a great solution.
Change Window Coverings
Shades and blinds have a big effect on any room. Replacing the old window coverings will allow for better management of light and add an updated look to the room. Overtime, the sun does significant damage to coverings causing them to crack and fade. There are many options for what to put over windows with a vast range of prices.
Doing all of these cost effective updates will really upgrade your bedroom to modern styling while adding value to your home.
