How I differentiate From The Crowd
I am not offering advice but rather I am documenting what has worked and what hasn’t. Everyone’s situation is different; thats what makes personal finance, well, personal. Over the years, I’ve found that many friends, colleagues, family members, and mentees lack the knowledge and education to make the most informed decisions regarding their finances. It’s not their fault, as this isn’t taught in school and chances are, no one taught them the core principles of financial literacy. Data and statistics can provide a lot of insight in guiding us to greater chances of success.
I have worked through various struggles and wins over the years. Each experience has shaped me into who I am today.
I’ve:
- Graduated from engineering school with my BSEE.
- Had washing machines leaking at rental properties.
- Been laid off from a tech software startup.
- Started my own landscaping business in high school where I went door to door selling various services.
- Dealt with a few mice and ant infestations.
- Fixed a house that was slowly sinking into the ground.
- Achieved a Masters degree in the evenings while working full time and renovating a house hack.
- Traveled to 18 countries where I booked free flights and hotels in over half of them.
- Cold called property owners to see if they would like to sell their homes.
- Worked in a restaurant at 16 where I waited tables, cleaned floors, and washed dishes.
- Renovated bathrooms, built hardscape features, built fences and decks, installed flooring, windows, lighting, and more.
- Traveled to 38 US states for my first job.
- Job hopped 4 times to increase my pay and learn new skills.
- Built a net worth with my wife of over $1M at the age of 32.
The list can go on and on, but I want to share some of these as I’m sure some readers can relate. We all have something in common.
Early in my adult life, I had the same questions as many readers.
- How can I make more money with the same 24 hours everyone has in a day?
- How can I travel affordably to see the world without going broke?
- What should I do with the money I make at my 9-5 so that it can grow into more money?
- I want to buy a rental property but where do I start and how do I learn the process?
- How do Roth IRA’s, HSA’s, capital gains tax, mortgages, credit cards, etc. work and tie together?
- What can I do to build a better life and make the most of my time here?
If we know how things work, why they are the way that they are, how to use the tools properly, and develop a plan, we can all be successful in due time. I hope that my tools, experiences, learnings, data points and expertise in certain areas can help someone each day. I’m grateful for all my readers and would love to meet all of you at some point.
