Real Estate
Real estate is a broad subject area that encompasses any activity related to land, buildings, and their associated improvements. This can include but is not limited to buying, selling, leasing, developing, and managing property that is either commercial or residential.
Residential properties include condos, single family homes, small multi-family homes, vacation homes, and some other types. These properties are places where people can reside and typically they are occupied by home owners or tenants who are renting the space from the owner. Residential properties offer a lower barrier to entry for first time property owners and usually have incentives and programs to help buyers purchase them.
Commercial properties are properties that are a part of a larger business. These properties are built and managed to generate revenue by providing space for businesses to operate, house many people, act as a place to provide the general public with a product or service, and much more.
Investing in real estate has been a tried and true method for investing money for hundreds of years. As Mark Twain said “Buy land, they aren’t making it anymore”. Real estate is a limited resource and as time goes on, more land is developed to house the increasing number of people as well as enable organizations to conduct their business in the world economy. The world needs people to invest in real estate for multiple reasons. Here are some reasons why:
- Provide safe, clean, and affordable housing for people
- Rehab worn out and broken down properties so that they can stay habitable
- Enable businesses to focus on their business without having to manage a building or space on their own.
- Stimulate economic growth and create jobs for those working on real estate projects at any scale.
- Develop land so that it can can become usable which makes society operate much more efficiently.
Real estate investors aren’t just greedy landlords. Many are taking on all sorts of challenges such as building new properties, renting to those who want flexibility and mobility, managing properties so that the owners and occupants don’t have to, renovating properties that are in distress and much more. These tasks cannot be handled by the government to do a proper job with it so many real estate activities are handled by the private sector. Because of this, there are endless ways to make money and build a career with real estate whether you do it full time or as a side hustle.
