DIY Projects

Do-it-yourself projects can be rewarding, save you money, and provide peace of mind that the job was done properly. Completing tasks yourself also means you have flexibility in regard to the choice of materials and the timing as to when the work gets done.

I like to break down projects into four main categories:

  1. DIY for pretty much any homeowner
  2. DIY depending on confidence level
  3. DIY with the help of a licensed professional
  4. Better off not doing it yourself and leaving it to a licensed professional for various reasons.

One of the key reasons why people don’t want to be homeowners is because of the time, money, and stress that goes into maintaining or fixing up a property. Like anything in life, if you have he right systems in place, dealing with the occasional repair should be no sweat. With the resources available to us today, there are many fixes and improvements that can be done by yourself with a bit of understanding and courage to get your hands dirty. There are many things to consider in the rent vs. buy argument, but having to deal with maintenance work should not be a primary factor in determining the best choice.
